Why is Dermapen TattOff™ a better tattoo removal method than Laser?

Laser tattoo removal methods work by blasting the ink/pigment with pulses of light, shattering it into small particles which are burned and pushed deep into the adipose (fat) tissue. The ink is absorbed into the blood, the liver, and the kidneys and then excreted from the body. Many tattoo inks are toxic and have plastic in them, so this is not ideal. After laser tattoo removal treatments, the area is swollen, irritated and painful for an extended period of time. Usually 6-12 and sometimes up to 20 treatments may be needed depending on the pigment, with 8-week waiting periods between each treatment.

The Dermapen micro-needling tattoo removal method works much like the process of getting a tattoo by needling a lactic acid solution into the area. Lactic acid is a natural, dairy-derived acid. It breaks up the ink/pigment and forms a scab. The ink/pigment rises to the surface. There is very slight swelling, about the same as when the tattoo was done and very little irritation following. The scab then falls off after a few weeks with new skin under it that is free of the tattoo ink/pigment.

A major advantage of Dermpen TattOff™ is that it removes ALL colors, it is color-blind because it uses a chemical reaction, not a light-based reaction.

Does it work on any skin type?

We have a set of questions we ask to assess if the tattoo is a good candidate, many will be.

How many treatments does it take?

For each 5×5 inch area it takes anywhere from 1-4 treatments, depending on the tattoo design, for smaller tattoos it can be done in as little as 1-2 treatments.

Will there be a scar?

Imagine if you scrape your knee and scab forms, after a bit, the scab falls off and there is new, fresh skin under it. It might be pink for a while, but eventually, it goes back to mostly normal. If there is a slight skin unevenness, a session of micro needling can be done with our Dermapen® to help smooth it out. In most cases, after the area is completely healed, the skin matches the surrounding skin, although sometimes there may be a slight difference.
